Lagos state government has announced an indefinite ban on the approval of the construction of filling stations in the state.

The state commissioner for physical planning and urban development Wasiu Anifowose said this on Tuesday, April 25 at the ministerial press briefing in Alausa.

The conference was part of activities marking the second-year anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration.

Anifowose said government had already resolved not to grant construction permit for filling stations pending the taking of inventory of existing ones.

Ambode has signed that no new filling stations should be built in Lagos
He said this became necessary because of the issue of oil spillage in Alimosho and Anifowose.

The government wants to determining those that should be removed to ensure public safety.

He said: “What happened in Alimosho was because of pipeline vandalism. If people have not been greedy to vandalize pipeline, we will not be seeing what is happening. But be rest assured that no permit for filling station in Lagos State till further notice.

“I have told the General Manager of the concerned agency; the management team of the agency has taken a decision and we will not grant any approval until we take inventory and see what we have.”

He said the State Government was also working with the Federal Government to relocate Tank Farms in residential areas in Apapa, adding that a definite pronouncement would be made in that in regard in due course.

Meanwhile, Ambode said on Friday, April 21 that plans are already underway to begin construction of three new ultra modern General Hospitals in the state this year.

This is to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

Governor Ambode spoke at the second quarterly Town Hall Meeting for the year and seventh in the series held at Shibiri/Ekunpa Area Office in Oto-Awori local council development area (LCDA).

He said the state government was already concluding the necessary paperwork before the contractors would move to site.
